Vol 5 Issue 3
The novels I’m recommending in this issue are an eclectic group, all of which were published in 2024. I hope you will find them as enjoyable and immersive as I did.
My Recommendations This Month

All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker
Whitaker has written a sprawling novel focusing on the decades long search for a serial killer and the human trauma in its wake. The setting is a small Missouri town where young girls are disappearing.
Patch, a poor thirteen-year-old boy born with only one eye, helps the daughter of a wealthy family escape from her would-be captor When Patch doesn’t return Saint, his best friend, devotes most of her time searching for him believing he is still alive.
The novel begins in 1975 and concludes in 2001. Whitaker skillfully combines a missing person mystery and the hunt for a serial killer with the long-term effects of the trauma on his fully realized cast of characters. Highly recommended.

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman
Richard Osman follows his highly successful Thursday Murder Club novels with a new series that also combines mystery, action and humor.
In We Solve Murders we meet a team of quirky investigators, who use their skills and wit to come out ahead of the bad guys. Amy Wheeler’s job is providing private security and her current client is a well-known author. When the job turns dangerous, she enlists the skills of her father-in-law Steve, retired from Britain’s Metropolitan Police force, to keep one step ahead of the criminals pursuing them. A fun, exiting read.

An Art Lover’s Guide to Paris and Murder by Dianne Freeman
Freeman writes a Victorian era mystery series featuring Frances, the countess of Harleigh and her husband George. The pair travel to Paris when his Aunt Julia suspects the death of well-known artist Paul Ducasse wasn’t accidental as the police claim but was murdered.
The backdrop of the novel, the seventh in the series released in 2024, is the 1900 Paris Exposition and the artist community of Montmartre.
