Tensions mount when Nicky, Chloe’s estranged sister, shows up after their fifteen-year rift. The two have a tangled history of toxic resentments that had intensified when Chloe married Adam, Nicky’s first husband, and Nicky lost custody of her son Ethan to the newly married couple.

The sisters must put aside their differences when Ethan becomes the prime suspect in his father’s murder.

Burke has created a compelling mystery and dramatic courtroom scenes while telling a poignant story of family love and misunderstandings.

Fast Track by John DeDakis

Fast Track is the first in a series featuring Lark Chadwick.

After the death of her aunt who raised her, Lark Chadwick learns that she survived a car crash in which her parents were killed. At the time their car collided with an oncoming train, Lark, then an infant, was thrown out of the car. In news reports she was referred to as the Miracle Baby. But neither her aunt nor her grandparents, all now dead, never revealed any detail about the tragedy.

Unmoored by the loss of her aunt, whose death was ruled a suicide, Lark embarks on a search for the truth surrounding her parents' deaths. Lionel Stone, editor of the local newspaper, becomes her mentor when he hires her to write a follow-up article on the accident. But the path to the truth is fraught with danger for Lark when an attempt is made on her life. Despite temptations to quit, Lark persists. She exposes the sinister reasons behind the deaths of her mother, father and aunt. And finds a new path in life for herself using her talents as a journalist.

A Long Time Gone by Joshua Moehling

The latest in a three-book series featuring Deputy Ben Packard.

Set in a small town during a brutal Minnesota winter, Packard, who is gay, is placed on administrative leave after he shoots and kills a gunman who fired his weapon inside the courthouse.

Despite the lack of official resources, Packard decides to search for his brother, who disappeared on snowy night decades earlier. While his brother has been presumed dead all these years, his body has never been found.

A Long Time Gone is a riveting police procedural with the emotional power of a family tragedy.
